Hemp Used For Paper
The use of hemp paper is one of the oldest histories of something from a plant that is still in use today and the Chinese are credited with the first paper manufactured from hemp. There are some important Chinese texts, with one document that has text and been dated to 770 AD, while this is an important document there were also other documents that were important to entire countries written on hemp paper. The Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution were both drafted by Thomas Jefferson on hemp paper. Jefferson was a known proponent of growing hemp crops speaking out to farmers and growing crops of hemp himself.
The manufacturing of hemp paper is known now to use less energy, it has less chemicals, so it does not created the dioxins that the manufacturing of paper from trees does. The level of cellulose in hemp is approximately three times what it is in trees and from planting to harvest it is approximately 120 days making hemp the wiser choice for manufacturing paper.
One of the other advantages of hemp paper if used today is the natural habitat of animals and of plants sheltered by the trees that are destroyed by cutting of trees that have taken many years to grow. The cutting of trees as opposed to a hemp crop that can be planted and cut within 120 days, which does not disturb the ecological balance of the forest.
