Hemp Milk
Hemp milk comes from the industrial hemp plant and is similar in nutrition to soy milk, the milk from this plant is manufactured from the seeds. The industrial hemp plant cannabis sativa should not be confused with its relative cannabis, the marijuana plant. The industrial hemp plant contains such low levels of tetrahydrocannabinol, better known as THC that it is safe for consumption with no side effects. The industrial hemp plant has approximately one percent of this chemical known to be used for drug use, its cousin the marijuana plant has approximately twenty percent of THC in the plant.
What this milk does contain is Omega 6 and Omega 9 fatty acids, a high iron and calcium content, vitamins and minerals including D2, B12 and riboflavin. Hemp milk is also a safe product for people allergic to milk, nut and soy products or people that have stomach upset from animal milk. One eight ounce cup of hemp milk contains 46% of the daily recommended amount of calcium and 43% of the daily recommended amount of phosphorus.
The hemp milk is made from the seeds of the industrial cannabis sativa plant, as are many other products, because of the nutritional value found in the seeds. The milk is thicker in consistency than soy milk and does not have the grainy texture often found in soy milk and other natural milks. The industrial hemp plant can be grown organically making this a milk that is pesticide free.
